About the Internship
Internships with Moral Injury Institute will add to the base of knowledge and practice applications available through MII to community networks and organizations that seek to provide helping resources for persons who struggle with the effects of trauma-related moral injury. This reflects a multidisciplinary scope of interest. The focus will concentrate on persons who have served in combat, in civilian critical incident situations, and other life situations that result in trauma related existential effects of moral injury. In addition, other populations are identified with these effects. The secondary focus will be on the varied roles of caregivers such as family members, healthcare professionals, educators, etc.
Categories of Research
- General veterans population
- Impact of moral injury and military deployment on families and caregivers
- Prevalence of moral injury in other professions such as professions such as law enforcement, healthcare, senior care, hospice care
- Faith-based groups with programs for veteran/active military
- Educational organizations and healthcare providers focused on hidden wounds of war and the overall wellness of veterans and their families
- Identify persons and organizations that wish to provide support and/or collaborate at organizational or community network levels
- Add to digital repository for advocating, training, research, and networks
Areas of Engagement
- Identify and catalog publish resources and statistical data related to a populations affected by trauma and/or moral injury
- Capturing stories of relevance and interviewing persons(example: combat veterans, prioritizing those who are facing end-of-life resolution)
- Identify and profile best practices among faith groups, community service organizations, healthcare and wellness organizations
- assist with the creation of presentation content to use in awareness building events, and training/networking events
***Intern can work with MII to create research/projects not listed in the categories above.
Qualifications
This internship is ideal for anyone with a passion for and interest in participating in the effort to learn, teach, and organize community responders to provide a holistic web of care for peoples struggling with moral injury and those who support to them. The ideal intern will demonstrate qualities such as flexible, detail-oriented, passionate and personable. Qualifications include:
- Interest in community action networks
- The ability to connect with diverse people groups
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software programs
- Availability for occasional travel to events and meetings
- Adhere to high personal and professional ethics and conduct
